Fil-Am Press Club NY nominated for excellence by Montclair U’s Center for Cooperative Media

New York - The Center for Cooperative Media (CCM) at Montclair University has selected the Filipino American Press Club of New York as one of the finalists in the 2025 New Jersey Ethnic and Community Media Celebrations & Awards. This ceremony recognizes the excellence and contributions of the Garden State's more than 145 ethnic and community news outlets. 

FAPCNY, formed in 2012 in New Jersey, is the only press organization of Filipino American community journalists in the East Coast.  It has a 501 c (3) status. FAPCNY participated in various media forums and research studies initiated by CCM. Filipino journalists Marivir Montebon, Ricky Rillera, and Don Tagala were among CCM’s fellowship program recipients for Covid-19 and 2024 elections.

The category winners will be revealed during the luncheon event at The College of New Jersey on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. EDT.

The categories and nominees are:

  • Ethnic & Community Media Lifetime Award - honors an outstanding ethnic and community news outlet that has significantly contributed to its community and played a pivotal role in advancing community engagement and development over many years.

    • Nowy Dziennik, Est. 1971

  • Ethnic & Community Media Champion Award - recognizes an ethnic and community news outlet or organization demonstrating values and commitment to informing, educating, and building community through local journalism.

  • Ethnic & Community Media Leadership Award - recognizes a local journalist who elevates the voices of people in communities, using their platforms to advance underserved, under-resourced, and underheard communities.
